“I am the one who knocks.”
“I’m not in the meth business. I’m in the empire business.”
“If that’s true—if you don’t know who I am—then maybe your best course is to tread lightly.”
As you’ve probably guessed, this is going to be about coffee.
Specifically, Walter’s Coffee Roastery, the Breaking Bad–themed coffeehouse we all knew had to come someday. It’s now open in Bushwick.
Let’s first address the Breaking Bad–ness of it all: instead of planters, flowers are in Erlenmeyer flasks. The accents are the brilliant yellow of Heisenberg’s hazmat suit. So are the mugs and saucers. Water comes in beakers. Test tubes abound. Baristas sport lab aprons. Bags of beans are labeled in the style of the periodic table. You get it.
There’s another location of Walter’s in Istanbul. But seeing how that commute is less than convenient for your morning beverage, this location seems prudent, and has the bonus of a large outdoor patio.
Ideal uses for this place include typing out a novel, the next AMC megahit or your run-of-the-mill work email, whilst sipping on espresso or other coffees from Red Hook’s Pulley Collective (and soon, eating sandwiches and pastries). Regarding the espresso, they’re one of only two coffee places in town to use this particularly advanced espresso machine.
We’d watch out if we were the other one.
