It was a rough couple of weeks without Nighthawk and its gin-spiked Froot Loops milk and banh mi micheladas.
But the breakfast-fixated bar is back now, reopening Thursday just a few blocks from the beach in Venice.
And you get the feeling things are going to be different this time.
Friday
STYLES AHEAD
Knowing a Sale from Shinola
Kelly Slater’s Outerknown is having its first sample sale, with discounts on the very button-downs,
sweaters and jackets you’ll don for beach bonfires through fall. And you may notice the city getting a
little Shinola-ier when the watch and leather shop opens Saturday at the Grove. No, it’s a word.
UNDER THE BRIDGE DOWNTOWN
You’ll Take Your Films Below Iconic Structures, Please
A 20-foot screen is being set up under Broadway Bridge to accommodate outdoor screenings of No Country
for Old Men on Friday and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari on Saturday, accompanied by a live
electronic jazz score. These will be the weekend’s only sub-bridge screenings.
Saturday
THE GWEN COMMANDMENTS
Smoked Lamb Ribs on a Hollywood Patio
You’re in Hollywood with a date. You guys feel like Gwen’s charcuterie and smoked lamb ribs, but
reservations never congealed. Perfect. Because now Gwen offers a menu for walk-ins with à la carte
dishes, small plates and charcuterie at its two bars and patio. Right, there’s also a patio now.
Tuesday
LEI NOW
Many a Hawaiian Burger on Sunset
Tuesday. You’re still recovering from the weekend. A great big grass-fed Hawaiian burger with guava rum
sauce may be the only way to proceed. Pono Burger has those. Along with a new Sunset Boulevard location full
of its burgers, hand-cut fries and bacon-bit milkshakes. You will weekend again.
