You want barbecue.
Your studio-head buddy demands pasta. He... demands things.
And his actress girlfriend, she’s thinking Asian duck.
Sounds like a coherent plan.
Guess you’re going to GC Marketplace, a vast new Valley epicenter combining a patisserie, a wine bar, house-smoked barbecue and basically everything else that you’d want to eat, opening Monday. (See the slideshow here.)
Fact: “GC” stands for “global cuisine.” Which is what you’ll find in this ultramodern bazaar of gleaming marble and stainless steel under a wall of 350 wine bottles. The chef, Gary Arabia, has a long, way-LA history that includes handling the food for Seth MacFarlane’s Oscar party and for Shaq’s kitchen. That kitchen put up some good numbers over the years.
So if you’ve got an early writers’ room date at Universal, you could stop by for some croissants, molasses-brined smoked salmon and cappuccino from the patisserie. Or if that intriguing casting agent you met at Laurel Tavern returns your call, hit the patio for a paella or sandwich date. If you two decide to linger over some pinot, maybe you’ll buy some ibérico de bellota and French cheese for home.
You probably won’t need the chef to come home with you to the kitchen.
Probably.
