Seems like only yesterday we were talking about Steam, that new club where you might see a girl taking a
Froot Loops bath.
But the same guys already have a speakeasy hidden behind a newsstand next door—and it’s ready for you.
Lightning in a bottle and all.
Its name: Railroad Blues, a ’20s-style speakeasy for classic cocktails, live blues and ladies in corsets, soft-opening tonight in Downtown.
There’re a few things we need to talk about here.
It really is a password-required speakeasy.
Inside, the joint looks like a 1920s railcar: tufted-leather banquettes, antique mirrors, vintage suitcases (the proof’s in this slideshow). But first, you’ll have to find the “newsstand” next to Steam... and the password to get past the unmarked door.
But not this weekend.
You can just walk right in—for now. Because the newsstand facade goes up next week. At which point, you’ll need that password to access your Sazeracs. You can find it by keeping a close eye on this, this or this.
Speaking of Sazeracs...
The deal here is classic cocktails. Bee’s Knees. French 75s. Moscow Mules. All poured by barkeeps sporting a corset or a suspenders-and-tie combo. Obviously.
There’s a stage here.
For blues. Soul. Just a touch of rock.
Actually, maybe a soupçon of rock.
