If Dressler’s unfamiliar to you, know this: all those excellent neighborhood dining spots now dotting the streets of Williamsburg—they all kind of exist because of how good Dressler was back in the salad days of 2006. Manhattanite-drawing good. Michelin-star good.
Now its original chef (the one with the star) has brought this good work forth in its place. It’s a brighter, airier spot that feels twice as large as before—but isn’t, because buildings don’t grow. In short: impressive redesign.
You’ll enter beneath a suspended herb garden, where they harvest your cocktail’s basil/rosemary/etc. Come while there’s still daylight, and grab one of the tall brown leather banquettes opposite the bar. Do like the herbs and soak in the late sun. Do unlike the herbs and order the seafood-intensive Plancha Marina. (Sorry, herbs.)
Regarding the aforementioned cocktails, try the Friend of the Devil, a tequila-lime-cilantro brew with habanero. Eventually, you’ll be able to request an off-menu version with Scotch bonnets.
