Even in a city with a virtually limitless array of dining options, certain dishes are way too
good to miss—they demand immediate consumption. We are dedicated to bringing you these must-eat items
via Served Up, our monthly feature on a standout dish in the city. Dig in.
There's no denying your deep love for the slice...whether it's a lunchtime eat-at-your-desk affair, or a full-on sit-down dinner, nothing beats the holy trinity of crust, tomato sauce and cheese (and let's not even get started with toppings).
Normally we'd be highly suspicious when someone tries to mess with this kind of perfection, but the Chocolate Pizza at Max Brenner actually made us think it's possible to move pizza from the entrée column over to the super sweet world of desserts.
The pie is about the size of a personal pizza and is served piping hot, straight from the oven. The crispy crust tastes just like regular pizza dough, but then things get quite different—in a very sweet way. When milk chocolate replaces the tomato sauce and white chocolate stands in for cheese, they blend to form a happy medium of taste and not-quite-liquid texture.
Add baked marshmallows instead of your usual pepperoni, or the tasty caramelized hazelnuts that look a little like finely ground sausage, and you have yourself a sweet little nosh in a beloved and familiar form.
Yet more proof that everything tastes better as pizza.
