Things to do for February 20, 2014

The Weekender

Disco Skating and Ray Charles in the Same Weekend

A weekend’s intuition is always right.

Thursday
Souper Jenny 2.0, Right This Way
YES SOUP FOR YOU

Souper Jenny 2.0, Right This Way

When you want soups and sandwiches and things in Buckhead, Souper Jenny takes care of that for you. When you want soups and sandwiches and things in Decatur, she doesn’t. Except just kidding, because she opened a second soupeteria there. That was a joke about a soup place.

Saturday
Just Some Disco Skating Is All
PANIC AT THE DISCO

Just Some Disco Skating Is All

There’s disco. There’s ice skating. And then there’s don’t-make-us-say-it. But really, you should participate in what’s happening at Atlantic Station’s ice rink this weekend. It’s a DJ spinning ’70s music and a costume contest. And you skating around while that stuff happens.

Burlesque and Bingo in the Same Place
B-I-N-G-O

Burlesque and Bingo in the Same Place

According to the Vikings, this Saturday is the end of days. According to the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club, that’s a cause for celebration. Show up, take in some burlesque performances and play some bingo (Jim Stacy from Pallookaville will be one of the callers). Oh, and don’t die.

A Brass Band. A DJ. Early Mardi Gras.
GRAS DEAL

A Brass Band. A DJ. Early Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras officially begins March 4. For most people. But most people won’t be at the Loft on Saturday in front of a huge brass band doing New Orleans street parade stuff. And a DJ doing New Orleans DJ stuff. Which is basically just playing music like other DJs.

Wednesday
Ray Charles. Tons of Him.
RAY MATTER

Ray Charles. Tons of Him.

So hey, if you’re around the Cobb Energy Centre on Wednesday, a bunch of performers will be performing 18 Ray Charles songs. An a cappella group. A gospel choir. A saxophonist who played for Whitney Houston. If you’re not around the Cobb Energy Centre on Wednesday, it’s still happening.
