One of the most important sporting developments of the century is coming to town.
Maybe you’ve heard.
People will come from miles around for it.
They’ll round up their friends and family to go.
There’ll be festivities, drinks and fierce competition.
... And the Super Bowl will be here soon, too.
But this is called The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, a giant, indoor tropical paradise dedicated to the sweet science of shuffleboard. It’s now in previews and opening to the public soon. Here are the things you need to know about this...
You’ve got 10 courts to shuffle on.
That’s how much shuffleboard you can fit into 17,000 square feet. And that includes a number of rentable cabanas, which is really the only way to go in a shuffleboard club.
There’ll be a different food truck docked there each day.
Mexicue, Kimchi Taco, Morris Grilled Cheese. You know, performance meals.
Yes, there are leagues.
Sixty teams so far, with more nights and times already in the works. And being that the shuffleboard community here is so... nonexistent, it’s entirely possible that you could be New York City’s number one player within the next three months.
Tropical drinks: oh yeah.
Two long bars will sling local beers and the kind of cocktails that go best with large groups of friends wielding tangs—including a rum, pineapple juice and cream of coconut concoction called the Mae Hall, named after a shuffleboard champion.
Because of course.
