Everything That Was Important in 2013

If your 2013 seems like a haze of rooftops, beer gardens and spicy noodles, then clearly you did something very right. So let’s pour ourselves a drink, sit back and admire your work.

A Restaurant Surge at Trinity Groves
YOU CROSSED THE BRIDGE

A Restaurant Surge at Trinity Groves

At the beginning of the year, you had very little reason to venture across the bridge. But then Kitchen LTO opened, plus LUCK, Casa Rubia and a handful of other Trinity Groves spots. So now, venturing west means you’re hungry. Not just lost.

HG Sply Co. and Nora
YOU DRANK IN THE SKY

HG Sply Co. and Nora

Banner year for Lower Greenville. Sure, it saw the opening of many fine establishments. But two in particular resulted in your sipping cocktails on an elevated platform outdoors. So kudos to the rooftops at HG Sply Co. and Nora. You’d been meaning to take more stairs.

Mutts Cantina and the Rustic
YOU SPENT MORE TIME OUTDOORS

Mutts Cantina and the Rustic

The Bowl & Barrel guys stayed busy in 2013, turning an unsuspecting green field into a dog park/beer garden (Mutts) and its neighboring plot into a massive restaurant/concert hall (the Rustic). Fine use of real estate right there.

Lark on the Park and Savor
YOU IMPROVED YOUR PICNICKING

Lark on the Park and Savor

When Klyde Warren Park opened, you were more than happy to sit in the grass with your food-truck lunch. But then a couple proper restaurants popped up, offering things like climate control, chairs and perfectly seared steaks. You’re a sucker for a good chair.

Monkey King Noodle Co. and Tanoshii
YOU WELCOMED NOODLES TO TOWN

Monkey King Noodle Co. and Tanoshii

The week of September 16, 2013. Big week. Because we finally got dedicated noodle and ramen joints when Monkey King Noodle Co. and Tanoshii Ramen opened in Deep Ellum. Thus making your Dallas-based noodling decisions that much easier.

Alamo Drafthouse and Look Cinemas
YOU TRADED POPCORN FOR STEAK

Alamo Drafthouse and Look Cinemas

Seeing a movie at the theater has some perks. Like cold pints, pepperoni pizzas and ninja-like servers to bring you both. Well, that’s assuming you’re at Dallas’s very first Alamo Drafthouse or Look Cinemas. And we’re confident you are.

Village Kitchen and Toko V
YOU MET THE NEW GUYS AT MARQUEE GRILL

Village Kitchen and Toko V

Marquee Grill was like a shining beacon in... a really shiny shopping center. But then it changed names, things got confusing, and it closed. From those ashes came two spots in the same space. Village Kitchen with its fine burger and Toko V with its sushi. Don’t worry; the bar stayed put.
