Could use some beer and oysters, though...
So here’s Dusek’s and Punch House, a double whammy from some of the Longman & Eagle guys, soft-opening tonight in Pilsen’s Thalia Hall.
When you walk in, you’ll be in Dusek’s. It’s essentially a gastropub where you could go with friends for a big night out. Or it could be your laid-back neighborhood haunt. It’s named after the immigrant tavern owner who built the place in 1892, and the brass chandeliers are original. The banquettes and marble tabletops: not so much.
They’ve got food here. Maine lobster rolls, roasted mussels, boneless duck wings and duck-fat fries. All courtesy of Longman & Eagle chef Jared Wentworth. And all of which go nicely with the 24 beers on tap, from Czech pilsners to local 5 Lizard witbiers.
But if you want something cozier, head downstairs to Punch House. It’s like a basement rec room circa 1971 (model ships, antique bottles, low lights), where you’ll tuck into burgers and oysters.
Also down here: eight punches on tap, like the Asian-liquor-packed Rack Punch, made from a sailor’s recipe dating to the 1600s.
We hear it’s a real shanty dropper.
