Skeptical Investigation

So, This Is Breakfast Beer...

None We’re lovers. You know that. But every now and again, something comes across our desks that just seems... suspicious. Because of the tremendous material upside to all our lives if these claims pan out, we at times put ourselves in harm’s way to investigate. Albeit skeptically.

We call it: Skeptical Investigation. (Trademark pending.)

THE CLAIM
Fort Worth’s Martin House Brewing Company has made a beer with barley, wheat, oats, rye, honey and milk sugar. It’s called Day Break 4 Grain Breakfast Brew, and apparently, you’re supposed to have it for breakfast. We’ll see about that...

THE INVESTIGATION
So we went to Central Market armed with... well, exact change for a four-pack of Day Break tallboys and a box of cereal (Cookie Crisp).

Then, we waited for dawn.

At precisely 7:16am, we poured ourselves a bowl of cereal and a pint of beer. First, a spoonful of cereal. Tasted like cereal. Next, a slug of beer. Tasted like sweet, malty biscuits. Or Honey Nut Cheerios. But, you know, with more of a beer kick.

THE VERDICT
It’s not as sweet as you’d think. It’s actually pretty good. And (thankfully) nothing in there tastes like milk. But this stuff won’t replace your breakfast, and drinking before noon is always a thorny endeavor.

Unless you call it “brunch.”
