Where and When to Drink in the Sun

The good news: you’ve got a long weekend ahead of you. The potentially bad news: rain. You don’t care, though. You’re still going to America all over the city this week. And if you can’t find the sun at these exact patio tables at these exact times, you never will.

Papagãyo Charlestown

Papagãyo Charlestown

Where to Sit: Tables 303 and 304.
Optimal Sun Time: 11:45am to 2pm.
The Play: Succumbing to the hypnotic afternoon effects of tequila snow cones and margaritas with miniature Coronas upended in them. Shouldn’t be all that hard to succumb to.

The Sinclair

The Sinclair

Where to Sit: Any of the 70s, 80s or 90s.
Optimal Sun Time: 70s: 1 to 3pm. 90s: 3 to 5pm. 80s: all good.
The Play: Engaging in a full-tilt Harvard Square bronzing-brunch over Smoked Pork Belly Bloody Marys. Maybe some tater tots to prime for a concert downstairs. Maybe some tater tots just because.

Boston Chops

Boston Chops

Where to Sit: Table 805.
Optimal Sun Time: 5pm.
The Play: Getting patriotic over something brown (and neat) before some buddies join you for a few by-request-only pig’s feet. Bonus: great pretty-people-with-dogs watching.

Cinquecento’s Patio

Cinquecento’s Patio

Where to Sit: Table 228.
Optimal Sun Time: 5:45pm.
The Play: Clinking a few flutes of prosecco under one of those Crayola-colored sunsets that only a post-summer rain shower can produce. Or sitting inside and waiting for that to happen.

Bronwyn’s Outdoor Biergarten

Bronwyn’s Outdoor Biergarten

Where to Sit: Table 44.
Optimal Sun Time: 5:01 to 6:14pm.
The Play: Bierwurst. Giant steins of beer. Flashbacks to those summers spent reading Heidegger and cheers-ing with brewer-monks in Central Europe. Maybe just bierwurst and steins.
