Brisket Tacos and 30 Tequilas from Texas

Today we have unexpected news regarding the city of Dallas. As it happens, visitors from that city aren’t all lobbying for oil.

Sometimes they come toting crazy new tequila concoctions and brisket tacos.

Yeah, we were surprised, too.

Anyway, say hi to Mi Cocina, a repository of Tex-Mex and tequila, opening Friday in Chevy Chase.

What we’ve got here is a shiny new spot for ribeye fajitas smothered in chili-cilantro-lime queso. Stuck between Christian Dior and Bulgari. But look at it this way: you’re almost guaranteed to see tables of designer-clad cougars. Apart from them, you’ll see giant amber chandeliers and bright pastel paintings.

First order of business: alfresco brunch. Grab a chair on the 90-seat patio or at the bar with open windows at your back, and tuck into chilaquiles and breakfast quesadillas. And since you’re outside, wash them down with a Mambo Taxi, a frozen margarita blended with housemade sangria. (The name is trademarked, so don’t go home and set up a Mambo Taxi stand on the sidewalk.)

If you’re here after sunset, you may find yourself taking your tequila a bit more traditionally. There are more than 30 of them, so that at least gives you something to think about while waiting on your brisket tacos or the burrito-like Cocina Changa.

It’s changa you can believe in.
