Your SXSW Survival Guide

There are three things to remember if you’re going to SXSW. 1) Hydration is key. 2) Sleeping shows weakness. 3) Forget the first two and just download The Next Move Austin. That’s how you’ll find everything worth finding while you’re in town. Like these five new essentials below.

Clark’s Oyster Bar
FOR PRESHOW MARTINIS

Clark’s Oyster Bar

Congrats, you made it to Austin. This calls for a celebration. One with bivalves and gin. So start your night at this sleek nautical spot and summon a plate of East Coast oysters and an icy martini. Better throw in a lobster roll, too. Just because.

The Buzz Mill
FOR ALL COFFEE-RELATED NEEDS

The Buzz Mill

At some point over these next 10 days, up will become down. Black will become white. A dentist’s office will become a concert venue. And you’ll want strong, no-questions-asked coffee at 3am. For those times, check out the open-all-night Buzz Mill. They also have beer. Which, hey... beer.

Craft Pride
FOR LOCAL DRAFTS

Craft Pride

This just-opened spot off Rainey Street’s really into beer. Specifically, Texas-brewed beers. They’ve got 54 on draft, so cancel your plans and order a tasting flight. Oh, almost forgot. There’s a bacon truck out back serving bacon-topped everything. Be sure to introduce yourself.

East Side King at the Hole in the Wall
FOR LATE-NIGHT RAMEN

East Side King at the Hole in the Wall

Ramen and steamed bun cravings can hit at any time. Like when you’re seeing a show on the drag and the band’s only halfway through its set. Thankfully, Paul Qui’s East Side King truck concept has gone brick-and-mortar, setting up shop in the back of the Hole in the Wall. How convenient.

Freedmen’s
FOR RECOVERY BRUNCHING

Freedmen’s

Brisket benedict and breakfast tacos. Restorative cocktails and hoecakes. Yeah, those should prove useful. Also, those are happening at Freedmen’s. They launch brunch service beginning Sunday. Plan your morning-after accordingly.

Sundays starting Mar 10, noon-3pm, Freedmen’s, 2402 San Gabriel St, 512-220-0953
