Lou Down

A Permanent Version of Supper Club Um Segredo

Every time a bell rings, a monthly supper party gets a permanent space in the West Village...

That’s how the end of It’s a Wonderful Life would go in modern times...

So give a warm welcome to Louro, a small, simple cove of... a hell of a lot of different ethnic cuisine in (yes) the West Village, now open.

The man behind this started at Bouley. You know that one. Then Per Se. Yeah—that’s familiar, too. Then he embarked on a supper-club mission—Um Segredo—on Roosevelt Island. It was huge. But never meant to last. This is.

It started with a Kickstarter campaign, and yada yada yada—you’ve now got a single home for dourade cooked with pickled banana, housemade cavatelli, Idaho trout and boar-sausage spaetzle.

Well, not so much a home as a mirror-paneled den of white brick and burgundy leather you’ll bring a bunch of people to. Grab that big communal table in the back. The one near the “bookshelf.” Don’t reach for the books. They’re fake.

On Mondays, they’ll be reviving that supper-club concept. That includes Christmas Eve, when they’ll be doing venison carpaccio.

Sorry, Rudolph.
