Please welcome to the stage Jelsomino, an over-the-top karaoke club that comes from Russia with backup singers, dancers and most importantly, fog machines, opening October 19 in South Beach.
On the one hand, this place is nuts: disco balls, strobe lights, velvet-tufted walls, pop art portraits of Madonna, caviar tins, dancers dressed in sequins. On the other hand, this place is totally normal... for an Eastern European den of karaoke.
So start preparing your vocal cords now, and come by with a group next Friday. Grab one of the stageside, black leather couches, order up a round of Purple Roses (bourbon, Aperol, blackberries) and browse a list of song options on an iPad. When you find something that you think would really bring the house down (typically, anything Michael McDonald), head for the floating center stage. Waiting up there for you: a wireless mic. Also, 14 backup performers.
Of course, if you need some privacy, you could always rent one of their four themed party rooms. Like the Elvis Presley, which is covered in blue suede walls and has songs available in Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
