Things to do for August 02, 2012

The Weekender

Adult Pop Tarts, Lamb and Fire-Eating Mermaids

The weekend has stuck the landing.

Thursday
Saturday
An Afternoon of Fire-Eating
TROPIC THUNDER

An Afternoon of Fire-Eating

You’re going to a hotel pool party this Saturday. And that hotel is... a Holiday Inn. Wait, wait. Come back. No reason to be alarmed. There’ll be piña coladas there. Also, tiki carving, mermaids eating fire and an end-of-the-night volcano sacrifice (seriously). Okay, fine, there’s some reason to be alarmed.

Eating Barbecue on the Chattahoochee
RIVER WILD

Eating Barbecue on the Chattahoochee

Canoe is hosting an end-of-summer barbecue this weekend. Which feels both a little early and a little depressing. But chin up. This means you’re getting an entire afternoon full of barbecue and beer. If this is summer’s last stand, well, let’s go out in a hail of beef ribs.

Sunday
An Inaugural Brunch Ceremony
CAPTAIN BRUNCH

An Inaugural Brunch Ceremony

There’s a new brunch in town. And it means business. Also, it means another place to get omelets. Round up some friends and head to Cibo E Beve. There’ll be free-flowing prosecco. There’ll be Adult Pop Tarts (mascarpone-filled fried dough). There’ll be mason-jarred Bloody Marys with bacon rye. Those, however, not free-flowing.

Sundays (gratis prosecco Aug 5), 10:30am-2:30pm, Cibo E Beve, 4969 Roswell Rd, Ste 245, 404-250-8988, see the menu

Monday
A Downtown Braised-Lamb Lunch Spot
SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

A Downtown Braised-Lamb Lunch Spot

Well, what do you know, it’s another food truck turned brick-and-mortar. This one in particular: hails from LA and specializes in Indian food. So, braised-lamb- or minced-turkey-stuffed flatbreads and spicy samosas. See... Indian food.

Tuesday
A Chef Battle in a Basement Bar
WHY WE CHOP

A Chef Battle in a Basement Bar

There’s no such thing as the Atlanta Chef Summer Games (at least until 2016). But there is P&P this Tuesday. They’re having the guys from Fig Jam and Steinbeck’s face off in a Chopped-ian showdown. Then, they’ll air the actual Chopped episode featuring Chef Zeb at 10pm. Then, a six-hour closing ceremony.
