The Race
4-Miler: The route circles Grant Park. And finishes... in the Braves dugout.
Firebreather: Six and a half miles of rugged mountain trails. Also, multiple river crossings (no, you can’t use an inner tube).
Edge: Father’s Day 4-Miler. Just keep Pop and Fredi González separated.
The Obstacles
4-Miler: You’ll be running almost strictly on city streets. So, you know, potholes.
Firebreather: Twelve-foot walls. Balance beams. And 20-pound sandbags. That you’ll carry.
Edge: Firebreather. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. What doesn’t kill Dad throws his back out.
The Competition
4-Miler: Braves fans. People who take speed-walking really seriously.
Firebreather: World-class athletes. Guys who own lots of tank tops.
Edge: Firebreather. Your father was a world-class athlete once. The year: 1972. The sport: bowling.
The Postrace Festivities
4-Miler: Admission to the Braves game. Nachos. Cold ones.
Firebreather: An after-party with live music... from a band that Dad has almost certainly never heard of.
Edge: Father’s Day 4-Miler. Foul balls make great gifts.
