We know it can be hard to land a table at Graffiato.
So some good news: Mike Isabella’s got another restaurant.
Bad news: it’s not another Graffiato.
Good news: it’s got 10 tacos and 18 tequila and mezcal cocktails. (Not that we’re counting.)
As you may have heard, it’s called Bandolero, and it’s taking reservations now for an opening this Thursday.
In case the whole Cinco de Mayo thing got past you, Mexican cantina season is still in full swing, and the Day of the Dead–inspired decor here will fit right in.
For first-date applications, meet at the copper-paneled bar and watch while they grab bottles out of crates on the wall to whip you up drinks like the Mezcal “Old Fashioned.” (Note: make sure said date isn’t turned off by animal skulls and black-painted walls. Or suckling pig tacos and crispy goat nachos, for that matter.)
For more festive occasions, you’ll want to head upstairs to the communal table overlooking M Street. There, keep things simple with a round of the house margaritas, made with blood orange and dispensed via a tap at the bar.
Then on to shareable plates like queso fundido with duck confit and the fajita-esque Kobe beef carbones.
Up next: a five-star chimichanga.
