Things to do for November 03, 2011
The Weekender
Pumpkin Bowling, Running for Beer and Italians
That’s not a weekend... that’s a weekend.
Thursday
Getting All Italian on the Westside
Tonight, your presence is requested on the Westside by the Italian Trade Commission. It’s about Italian design. It’s also about bottles of prosecco and a massive spread from Sotto Sotto (think San Daniele prosciutto, speck and poached shrimp). Seriously, though, Italian design. Good stuff.
Saturday
Destroying Pumpkins in Ridiculous Ways
Three words: Pumpkin Destruction Day. As in, destroying pumpkins in grand and ridiculous fashion. You get to do that this weekend. The caveat: it’s in The Rock, GA. The reasons it doesn’t matter: pumpkin cannons, pumpkin bowling, hammers and dropping pumpkins off a 40-foot crane. We have nothing further.
It’s Getting Colder. Have Some Chili.
Bad news: we’re going to see some 50s this weekend. Good news: there’s chili in Cabbagetown. So. Much. Chili. Head to Chomp and Stomp, where $5 gets you a spoon and chili samples from endless amateurs and restaurants like Fox Bros. and the Vortex. There’s also bluegrass bands and beer. Just in case.
Sunday
80 Beers with a Chance of Running
There’s a new beer fest this weekend. There’s a 5K right before it, so they’re calling it the Inman Park Beer Chase. Makes sense. But if you just want to go for the 80-plus beers like Innis & Gunn Oak-Aged and Stone Ruination, they’ll let you do that, too. We won’t judge.
The Jazz and Whiskey Version of Sundays
Sundays can be tricky. You’re not ready to call it a weekend, but you wouldn’t mind taking it down a peg either. Happy medium time. Starting Sunday night, the Family Dog is featuring different live jazz bands every week. They have like 70 whiskeys, too, which should help with the mellowing process.
