Things to do for October 20, 2011
The Weekender
A Weekend of Dunk Tanks, Killer Birds and Italian Suits
The weekend just died in your arms tonight.
Thursday
Friday
A Date with Martinis and Killer Birds
The Hitchcock movie date: big this week. Apparently. Because now it’s time for some alfresco cocktailing at the Mansion (go for the Cabernet Martini, which is exactly what you think it is) followed by a courtyard screening of The Birds. Don’t worry, they have heat lamps. In case your date needs a break.
Kicking Off a Party. With Another Party.
Here comes Taste of Atlanta again. Endless chefs, 80 local restaurants just hanging out, experimental cocktails from the city’s best barkeeps. And to kick things off, they’re throwing a party tomorrow night with live music from Yacht Rock, beer everywhere and some Food Network guy. Now that’s how you pre-party.
Saturday
Sid Mashburn Has a Trunk to Show You
Don’t be mad at that nip in the air. It’s just here to remind you that it’s new suit season. So hit Sid Mashburn for the Caruso trunk show, where a tailor from the Italian suitery will be on hand with new fall swatches and a tape measure. And probably a Negroni.
A Festival Whose Name Says It All
Originally, the only reason we wanted to tell you about this next one was the name alone. Just... the Festival of Excellence. Brilliant. Anyway, then we saw that you’d be able to watch football while drinking 24 beers (Abita, Crispin...), hitting up food trucks and listening to live music. Then that was the reason.
Sunday
When Adults Throw a Popsicle Party
Not long ago, the King of Pops arrived and forever changed the popsicle game (yes, that was a reference to the “popsicle game”). Well, now they’re doing it again... with a field day. Think dunk tanks, potato sack races, a ping-pong tournament and, of course, a popsicle eating competition. Popsicle game.
