England. It’s brought you great things in the past. Shakespeare. Monty Python. The girls of Page 3.
And now it’s bringing you breakfast. And lunch. And dinner. And post-dinner.
Let us explain...
Feast your eyes on The Churchill, a gastropub designed like a turn-of-the-century English country house (and named after Sir Winston), opening Friday on Third Street.
This comes to you from the guys behind the Hudson, and you’ll want to think of it as the Hudson’s handsomer, larger, more well-rounded brother. There’s lots of woodsy dining room space, a photo booth, a street-level patio with a fireplace, and a sleek upstairs area where DJs will spin after-hours. Plus, you’ll find curios like old boxing gloves and books, black-and-white sports photographs and an antique silver cash register.
If you’re dining in, make sure you experience the potato gnocchi with braised rabbit or one of their wood-oven pizzas. But if you’re in a rush, there’s a takeout window open all day (7am to 2am), where you’ll start your morning with a housemade chorizo breakfast burrito and Intelligentsia coffee... and possibly end it with an olive oil ice cream cone.
One more thing: drop our name this weekend and they’ll make you an off-menu Churchill Applesmith Infusion with vodka infused with Granny Smith apples for $5.
No, they don’t take pounds.
