A Golden Glove Champ’s Organic Spot

You know what it takes to be a champ.

A tractor tire. A gray sweat suit (with a headband). Access to a meat locker. A running routine that involves 30 kids following you.

But a few meals from a Golden Glove champion won’t hurt either.

Meet Southpaw’s, a new organic spot with a menu designed to help you kick someone’s ass, opening today in Uptown.

First, you’ll want to meet Reza, a two-time Golden Glove champion who trained with Joe Frazier’s old coach. (And yes, he’s a southpaw.) These days, however, he just wants to make you a nice Power Salad.

The place feels like a cross between a Panera and Apollo Creed’s old sparring gym—there’s a line of sandwich makers behind the counter and photos of everyone from Ali to Manny Pacquiao.

If you’re looking to get down to fighting weight (or sipping mai tais in Nevis weight), you’ll want to get a Persian Thunder smoothie (bananas and coconut milk) or The Refresher (a green salad with pesto). If you’re bulking up (you know, for fantasy football season), then opt for the Cruncher, a PB&J with apples and agave nectar. Or if you just need to unwind after going toe-to-toe with your expense report, grab a seat on their patio with a glass of Reza’s homemade sangria.

It’s gotta be better than the mojitos Tyson used to make you.
