You’ve come out the other end of another long weekend intact. Congrats. But now it’s on to weighty
matters: Unbalanced budgets. Looming government shutdowns. Ice-slicked streets.
And, of course, where to get a barrel-aged cocktail.
Say hello to Jake’s American Grille, a neighborhood watering hole from the same folks behind District 2 and the Ugly Mug, opening Friday in Van Ness.
Done up in metal fixtures, dark blue paint and red oak, this looks like the kind of place where the Navy chief of staff might break bread with his senior admirals (and, you know, talk Master and Commander). If it’s the Hoyas game you’re after, head for the long bar (and five TVs) to feast on Thai Chili Wings, Duck Confit Sliders and 20 draft beers (one for each Austin Freeman basket).
But if you’re going to make a long haul of it (you’ve got boats to discuss), settle in amid custom paintings and seafaring memorabilia at one of the high-backed banquettes, and get things started with a housemade, barrel-aged Manhattan, before moving on to Kansas City strips and beer-pork stew.
On deck come mid-March: weekend brunch with warm donuts, and the opening of the Boiler Room bar downstairs, complete with ping-pong, foosball and a TV dedicated to Wii and Kinect.
And, hopefully, Battleship.
