Sometimes you just want a cold beer in the rustic confines of a workingman’s tavern. Other times you want
a plush leather banquette and a deep wine bench.
And sometimes you can’t make up your mind...
Which brings us to Deckard’s American Tavern, your new safe house for cold craft beer and stouthearted pub food (and about 75 wines thrown in for good measure), soft-opening this week on Ponce.
To put it another way, if your evening calls for holing up in a dark corner booth with a bottle of Stag’s Leap and some steamed mussels before a show at the Fox, you’ll find ample opportunity to do so. But really, it’s all about the beer here... and they’ve got over 100 to help drive that point home.
After making your way up a short flight of stairs surrounded by brick and wrought iron, you’ll want to bank right, where the giant custom-made tap system awaits you behind the bar. It’s there that you’ll swiftly order one of 24 craft beers on tap (Allagash White, Ommegang Rare Vos...) while you bask in the glow of the endless row of flat-screens that surrounds you.
But if watching Chris Johnson single-handedly destroy your fantasy team isn’t your thing, feel free to seek refuge out on the patio for a Scotch Egg or some Beef Goulash... or about 75 other beers.
Think of it as an option play.
