Where to Go for Oysters
If the idea of lacing bivalve after bivalve with lemon and horseradish sounds like your kind of leisure activity, these five oyster spots will be your huckleberries.
The Castro

Food
If a restaurant has managed to stay in business for 40 years, you know they're doing something right. And, in the case of Anchor Oyster Bar, you're pretty sure it's oysters. It's an intimate Castro classic where you'll order a casual oyster shooter to get started, then move onto bigger and better things. Say, more oysters.
Nopa

Restaurant
There's so much to love about this cozy, two-level Divisadero gem, from their long beer list to their extra bacony seafood chowder. But we might love their happy hour menu the most. It includes everything from fish tacos to mussels to that chowder and yes, of course, local oysters for $1.50, available by the half or full dozen. And it happens every damn day.
SoMa
·
Restaurant
Marlowe's little sister in SoMo is just a few blocks away, and dedicated to two of your favorite things: oysters and bubbles. Order a glass of the latter, be led to your table and take a seat on the pink banquette. Persue the menu to see the day's offerings of fresh oysters, bivalves and crustaceans. Add an order of caviar. You deserve it.
North Beach

Food
A real deal gem amidst the North Beach tourist glut, Sotto is exactly where you want to go for kitsch-covered walls, a blaring oldies soundtrack, and some good old fashioned 'tude from the waitstaff. Oh, and oysters—order West Coast or East Coast bivalves by the dozen, douse them in lemon and horseradish and wash them all down with a cold beer. Smile. Repeat.

Every day is a good day for oysters at Woodhouse, an oddly shaped West Coast fish restaurant with a hint of East Coast influence (hi, lobster roll). But Tuesdays are the best days, when oysters are $1 all day long. So yes, it's perfectly acceptable to arrive at lunchtime for a dozen, circle back at happy hour and stick around for dinner. We imagine you could fit a lobster roll in there somewhere, too.
