The Finest Bar Food in the City
Dining at the bar is an art. Not so much for you as for the chefs behind these menus that could easily stand their ground in some of the city’s better dining rooms. Basically, sit down at these bars and just start ordering things.

Say hello to one of the finest cocktail bars in the city, if not the nation. While you were enjoying their Astrological Sign or Children's Book cocktail menus, you may have not noticed their upstairs dining area, where you can also grab some seriously fantastic bar bites like the Chicken Tricknuggets with sweet & sour, bacon ranch and smokey bbq suaces. Or the titular Trick Dog, a house-ground blend of chuck and brisket topped with lettuce, onion, pickles, cheddar and house sauce. Mmm, house sauce.

We get it. ABV definitely is one of the best places in the city for spirits-driven cocktails, prepared by one of the savviest, most passionate bar teams in town. But their food menu is just as good as the drinks and is worth your time and consideration. Because what's better than foie gras-stuffed olives or octopus a la plancha or a truly excellent burger (served on a Japanese sweet potato bun) with a round of said excellent cocktails? That's right: nothing.

The TL tribute to all things gin, Whitechapel has long been on your radar for their extensive cocktail list and interior design that makes you feel like you're drinking in a turn of the century subway tunnel. What you should also be noting is their fantastic food selection, from the fries with lemon-harissa aioli to the grilled octopus with chorizzo, sherry reduction and chimichurri.

If you've heard of the Dark Horse Inn out in Crocker-Amazon, you're already ahead of most of the city's bar aficionados. And are also aware of their stellar beer list and equally excellent food menu featuring new-school pub classics made with house-smoked meats. So the only question, really, is why aren't you there right this second, halfway through a kimchi reuben? Don't answer that.

It's almost too easy to make the Yankee one of your regulars, what with their fine draft list (much of which is available in pitchers), back patio and appreciation for local sports teams. It's even easier once you sample from their food menus which include things like chorizo-and-egg breakfast tacos (available all day, mind you), a loaded fried chicken sandwich and a burger topped with kimchi mayo and a fried egg. They're open for weekday lunch and weekend brunch, so you really could make a day of it if the inspiration strikes.
