Kevin Kwan's Novel Makes for a Luxurious Movie

As is often the case on The Ellen Show, we were delivered good news and something to look forward to. This time it wasn’t a child dancer or child genius or child anything. No, the trailer for Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians debuted and it looks glorious.

The movie stars Constance Wu and Henry Golding. Wu's character, Rachel, is a Native New Yorker who is taken to Singapore to meet her boyfriend's family. What she doesn't know is that her boyfriend, Nick Young, isn't just from Singapore, his family practically owns it. Well, if they don't, they certainly have the money to. Her shock at his hidden wealth isn't eased by his mother's terse disapproval of her.

The novel the movie is based on is so seductively indulgent, fast paced and funny, it was practically begging to be adapted to film. It's a luxurious romantic comedy that miraculously doesn't make you want to eat the rich. It does make you want to eat the meals the rich are eating, however. The Warner Brother's movie boasts an all-Asian cast as well as Asian director, Jon M. Chu. It's slated to come out August 2018.
