Today, we're going to tell you about a new hotel on Mid Market.
"Why would that matter to me when I already live here?"
That was you, by the way. And we're glad you asked.
Because within that now-open auberge, which goes by the name of Proper Hotel, lies a restaurant called Villon. They're both beauties, and here's what everything looks like.
The hotel itself is located in a painstakingly restored flatiron building. It's got 131 rooms and an app-operated concierge that will fetch you anything from ice to an IV to a private flight to Wine Country.
After hastily dropping your bags in the room, you and your date/staycation companion will head back downstairs and enter Villon, noting along the way how the European-style lobby pleasingly blends with the restaurant's equally European-style aesthetic.
Aesthetically pleased, check out the menu by a James Beard-nominated chef with experience at Campton Place and Eleven Madison Park. Try the foie gras with nectarine tapioca pudding, almond streusel and warm brioche. Try the squid ink tagliatelle with uni.
Try anything on the cocktail menu by the guys behind Trick Dog. It has seven sections, each with seven drinks (carry the 1... yep, that's 49 cocktails). Some are new like the Ver Sales with bourbon, vermouth, raspberry, lemon and ginger ale, and some come with history lessons on their origins.
You love a good origin story.
