The quest for the perfect sandwich is a treacherous one, littered with unseen obstacles.
Soggy bread, bland meat and the dreaded hidden pickle, just to name a few.
No more.
For we now live in a world with the Ruin Daily, a new coffee shop/deli/bar serving sandwiches made with a solemn oath that they won’t be shitty (their words, not ours). It’s open now, and this slideshow proves it.
To get one, you must journey to a forgotten corner of the West Loop. On the first floor of an office building, you’ll find a light-filled room with a wooden bar and metal tables that will be occupied by fellow sandwich enjoyers.
Join them once you’ve ordered your Gym Shoe, which is not a gym shoe at all, but a sandwich with three types of house-cured meats, plus tzatziki mayo and giardiniera on an Italian baguette.
Of note: not just sandwiches. As mentioned, it’s also a coffee shop with pastries by Mindy Segal. And it’s also also a bar with Black Manhattans and pinot-noir-infused Nightingales.
There’s beer, too. Really good beer, as far as sandwich shops go. Like Avery’s El Gose and Off Color’s Tooth & Claw. It’s in the same case as the marinated kale salad and jars of house pickle spears.
No surprises there.
