Today, the 13th of February and this most Monday-feeling of Mondays and the day before Valentine’s,
we’ve got a Brooklyn bar brimming with mezcal and date-spot potential. So we’ll just get right to
that.
It’s called Madre Mezcaleria, and you’ll find it right next to its sister spot, that much-celebrated Mexican restaurant El Atoradero in Prospect Heights. It’s now open.
Our suggested plan of action here would start with you arriving with a person you enjoy the company of and claiming a couple of stools at the bar. Scan their list of mezcal Negronis, mezcal Manhattans, mezcal sangria and other drinks you might not usually associate mezcal with. Weigh your options, and just go with whatever feels right—or start with a couple of straight pours while you consider your next move. They’ll arrive with spiced orange slices, a handful of crispy grasshoppers and, sure, some solid conversation fodder. From there, there might be some chicken tinga tostadas or aguachile. There might be spicy cucumber margaritas. There might be you heading next door for some more sizable sustenance.
Now, for a look at the place and what you’ll consume inside of it...
