The burger at Fog City is good—that sweet bun, that smoked-tomato aioli. The burger at Fog City’s bar, after 9pm, is the same burger, for $9 (instead of almost $18). Just tastes a little better for some reason.
Things to do in breweries: 1) Drink a beer. 2) Watch people making the beer. 3) Hit a two-day sample sale with stuff from Taylor Stitch, Joshu+Vela, Revolver and Maas & Stacks. It’s just the third thing at Black Sands Brewery, which is expected to open this summer. Until then: sale.
The sustenance: Comstock Saloon’s got Derby-themed sandwiches, bourbon pudding, bacon Hot
Browns. Over at Hog & Rocks: oysters. Lots of oysters.
The merriment: Comstock is doing Derby and Southside cocktails. At Hog & Rocks: a
best-dressed contest and gambling.
The... Derby: They’re both screening it.
Getting to a bar to watch the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight makes sense. Getting to a massive bar with an indoor court for a friendly bocce competition makes a little more sense. Or maybe it doesn’t. Still sounds fun, though.
Tuesday, taking shots on El Techo’s rooftop seems almost classy—the Amiga de Oaxaca is a shot of mezcal with a back of green-tea sangrita and a Modelo Especial. (That’s one of five combo options available.) Works if you’re doing a Cinco de Mayo thing, or a Tuesday thing.
