A Rooftop Pizza Party in the West Loop

Cheer up, Bears fans. Next weekend, things will be better.

Whoops. Did we just say Bears fans...

We meant pizza fans.

Next weekend will be better for pizza fans.

Here’s why: Parlor Pizza Bar, a major new development in eating-pizza-on-a-rooftop-patio experiences, opening Friday in the West Loop. (See the slideshow here.)

Where some people just saw an old auto-repair shop, some of the guys behind Stout and Cedar Hotel saw an opportunity for greatness in the way of wood-fired ovens, exorbitant amounts of patio seating and the occasional heated ping-pong bout.

So after a crash course at famed Roberta’s in New York, they developed 19 or so Neapolitan-style pies like the Hawaii Pie O with spicy pineapple and coconut cheese.

Inside, it’s all wood, exposed steel and chesterfield couches. Not a bad spot to swing by in the morning for pastries and Bow Truss coffee. But frankly, you’ll like it most in the evening. The patio is huge. Two-floors huge. Shipping-container-used-as-a-bar huge.

So sit. Relax under those patio lights. Play some ping-pong. Have a pizza. Partake in 75 beers or one of six cocktails on tap like a pisco punch...

Start a Bears prayer circle if there’s time.
