Comes a point in every summer when you just need to rent an unnecessarily tiny place in the woods and get close to someone. Like, right-on-top-of-each-other close. So close you could... anyway, we found five such places. Happy tiny-vacationing.

They’re Called the Chipmunk Cabins

The Accommodations: A full 140 square feet of pure, unadulterated rusticity in the middle of Wisconsin’s finest summer-camp-for-adults-who-never-went-to-summer-camp-as-kids.
The Extracurriculars: First, s’mores. Second, canoeing, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, horseshoes, tennis, shuffleboard, archery, campfires. Third, more s’mores.

This Airstream Is All Yours

The Accommodations: A 1971 Airstream Trade Wind Land Yacht outfitted with A/C, a flat-screen, a shower, dual sinks... it goes on like this. But no wi-fi, because “roughing it.”
The Extracurriculars: Your Michigan apple-picking dates just got more interesting. And shiny.

OFF THE RAILS

A Caboose with a Hot Tub Is All

The Accommodations: An Upper Peninsula “cabin” that just happens to be in the shape of a vintage train caboose. Yeah, another one of those.
The Extracurriculars: Shipwreck museums. Bear farms. Day trips to ghost towns. Night trips to your personal hot tub.

Someone Got All Design-y with This One

The Accommodations: A celebrated, 800-square-foot modernist masterpiece with two bedrooms and a crow’s nest for stargazing.
The Extracurriculars: It comes with its own canoe that you can take out onto Smith Lake. It also comes with its own sauna in case you like to sweat without paddling.

POD SYSTEM

A Spaceship in the Middle of the Woods

The Accommodations: A 1960s-flying-saucer-shaped house in the middle of the woods because that’s a perfectly reasonable thing.
The Extracurriculars: A paddleboat for excursions on the 60-acre lake with a private beach. Plus a sci-fi movie collection. They really thought this one through.
