You’re shooting pool by the beach in Venice.
Drinking beer. Hanging out.
Just don’t forget to buy a hatchet and a shirt on the way out...
Eight ball, corner pocket at Charlie’s Los Angeles, a new shop where everything’s made in the US of A and also there’s a pool table, now open in Venice.
Look inside. It’s like Gregg Allman opened a general store with Easy Rider–era Dennis Hopper. A brick-walled lair crowned with a neon Harley sign, a ’76 American flag and old circus posters.
We see you coming here when a date demands an impromptu weekend ride up to Neptune’s Net—grab some combination of Chippewa boots, Levi’s Vintage jeans, white tees... and the same black Schott leather jacket Bruce wore on Born to Run. There. You’re good.
And yeah, they have striking Bark River knives and Hardcore Hammers hatchets if for some reason you need those things, but a Zippo would probably do it for now.
At some point you’ll realize: it’s great in here. Charlie seems like a good guy. You’ve probably got time to hang out, play a round on the ’50s red-felt pool table or maybe pick up the guitar on the leather sofa and craft a folk-pop number. Whatever feels right.
Probably just the pool.
