Tale of the Tape

Two New Cafés Enter. One Leaves.

None
Two new cafés are set to open within days of each other. Tatte Bakery & Café (it opens Thursday in Kendall Square; left) and the upgraded Hotel Chocolat Cocoa Bar-Café (it’s opening early next week on Newbury; right).

But unfortunately, your body can only be in one place at one time.

Solution: fight.

The Scene
Tatte: Farm tables. Church benches. Wooden shelves from an old pharmacy. It’s like an old French-farmhouse/church/drugstore in there.
Hotel Chocolat: Long wooden benches. Wall-mounted tools for cocoa harvesting. Oh, and it’s sitting in the middle of an existing chocolate shop.
The Edge: Hotel Chocolat. The part about being in a chocolate shop really helped.

The Goods
Tatte: Lattes. Sandwiches with Middle Eastern touches like tahini. Hot chocolate.
Hotel Chocolat: Lattes. English muffins topped with melted mud pies. Double praline drinking chocolate.
The Edge: Push. Lattes, people.

The Extracurriculars
Tatte: An open kitchen. Baking and cooking classes.
Hotel Chocolat: Cocoa pasta and cocoa perfume in the attached store. A private tasting room in the back.
The Edge: Tatte. Give a man some cocoa pasta and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to... anyway, chocolate classes.
