Zia for Yourself

A Handsome Italian Joint in Lakeview

Fun fact: The day before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days for ordering pizza.

Slightly more fun fact: Today is the day before Thanksgiving.

The most fun fact of all: Zia’s Lago Vista, a handsome retreat for thin-crust pizza, rigatoni Bolognese and other Italian delights, is now open in Lakeview.

It’s from the people behind the Zia’s and Café Touché in Edison Park. They haven’t tampered too much with the just-like-Mama-used-to-make menu. They have, however, expanded their ambitions with a bigger space and soaring wood-beamed doors that look like they belong in a fortress.

Also in here: long velvet curtains, white tablecloths and a floor-to-ceiling wine cellar. Which means: there’s a high likelihood of you spending your next date here twirling pasta and tearing into a hearty braised lamb shank.

But you’ll like this place because it’s casual enough for you to come in on any given Wednesday night, sit at the big horseshoe-shaped 22-person bar, order a glass of Chianti and just chill out.

They have five thin-crust pizzas on the menu—so if a prosciutto, fig, goat cheese and arugula pizza also helps you chill out, well, then this is basically a spa.

Just don’t wear a robe.
