Say a prayer.
Do a jumping jack.
Eat a Wheatie.
Listen to some Night Ranger.
Do whatever you need to do.
Just make sure you like ziplining. Because this is about ziplining.
Welcome to the Treetop Adventure Park at Granlibakken, a giant outdoor coliseum with 13 ziplines, 70 treetop platforms and countless towering bridges up in Tahoe, taking reservations now.
Granlibakken. It’s Norwegian for “a hillside sheltered by trees.” Which... the naming-things guy really nailed that one. Because it is a hillside sheltered by trees. But it’s also a hillside filled with enough wires and harnesses to make sure your weekend road trip is just the right amount of sketchy.
Your guide will fix you up with a helmet and a harness with special carabineers that mechanically click on and off as you go. Then: a few practice zips. Then: all hell breaks loose.
You’ll hit the Fuzzy Bunny course. It’s got a great name. It’s also got eight bridges designed to test your balance. You’ll hit the Canopy Tour with ziplines over 500 feet long. You’ll eventually come across a tightrope with a bike on it (sorry, but it’s true).
Then, when you’re good and ready, find the advanced course called Windchimes.
And maybe another helmet.
