The Application: See that giant wine room on the first floor of Trummer’s on Main... yeah, they’ll set up a table in it for you. They’ll even give you a jacket, since it’s a brisk 55 degrees in there. No, the wine isn’t self-serve.

WEATHER UNDERGROUND

A Cool Cave with Cool Jazz

The Method: Going underground.
The Application: Descending downstairs to the subterranean confines of the legendary Bohemian Caverns to catch some live jazz amid the low ceilings and faux cave walls. Call it spelunking for blue notes.

ROPE-A-DOPE

Rappelling down Mountain Waterfalls

The Method: Cold mountain water.
The Application: Link up with this troop of Shenandoah guides and head for mountain pools, natural waterslides, maybe even waterfalls to rappel down. Best part: the spring-fed water hovers around 52 degrees. BYO wetsuit.

Going Full Hammock at a Winery

The Method: Swaying in the breeze.
The Application: Head to the Italian-inspired Three Fox Vineyards out in horse country. Obtain wine. Catch a ride in one of their carts up to the vast meadow atop the property. Claim a hammock. Finish bottle of wine.

Making for Siberia, via Dupont Circle

The Method: Chilled vodka.
The Application: Holing up in Mari Vanna, a place that looks like a Russian grandmother’s attic, is a nice start. A better start: summoning decanters of icy vodka infused with stuff like cherries and currants. You might as well be sitting atop the Siberian permafrost.
