A Beer Gem Surfaces in Hell's Kitchen

None 5 Photos The Pony Bar
Something's brewing in Hell's Kitchen. Literally.

Where you'd typically find a rowdy 10th Avenue bar pushing woo-woo shots and pumping Britney, you'll find a beer gem dedicated to bringing you the best of the American beer experience (that doesn't involve a ping-pong ball).

Welcome to The Pony Bar, a tiny slice of beer heaven, soft-opening tonight. You'll want to be there at 6 sharp.

Let's start with what you can't get at the Pony: foreign beers, beers in bottles (except for Bud and Bud Light) or anything typically displayed on a blinking neon sign. Instead, drop by with a few friends when you're looking for the latest in black wheat beers and prepare to while away an evening sampling offbeat ales (Captain Lawrence Fresh Chester Pale Ale) and intense IPAs (Leviathan Imperial IPA at 11.8% booziness) from an American beer menu organized by booze strength—all for five bucks a pop.

The space—inspired by an old photo of Neil Young—is decked with an old canoe, the aforementioned Neil photo and a few equestrian knickknacks, and anchored by two large beer barrels that double as communal tables (and inspiration). Classic rock and Americana will be on the radio, there'll be some brats and sandwiches to keep you on your feet, and, best of all, you can pick up a growler of your favorite porter for your to-go pleasure.

Beer heaven?
