Hemingway.
Fitzgerald.
Twain.
Oh, nothing. We just wanted you to know who to thank for all these punch bowls full of bourbon.
Salute your literary heroes for Novela, a dark and sexy new cocktail den that’s about to bless your evenings with more bookshelves, crystal chandeliers and spiked punch on tap than you ever thought possible, opening Friday in SoMa.
It’s like someone opened a first-edition copy of For Whom the Bell Tolls and placed a marble bar, some chesterfield sofas and a couple of Gitane- and Maven-trained cocktail wizards inside of it.
The result: early contender for Happy Hour Spot of the Year. Or just a really good post-dinner-date play. Either way, get in there. Take in the Jazz Age, Hemingway-in-Paris beauty of it all.
When you’re done doing that, find a banquette. Make one of six punches on tap happen. While you wait, check out those chandeliers with silver birdcages over them and... oh, here comes that punch now. It’s their signature one with citrus oil and nutmeg and three different whiskeys in it. Pretty sure you’ll find that to be delicious.
Oh, and don’t forget about the Hemingway Room. It’s in the back. It’s got long banquettes, a gilded tin ceiling, racks of wooden logs and its own bar. You can rent it out for a private happy hour situation.
Or a really private date hour situation.
