You've never been one to judge a book by its cover…but a new cover never hurts.
Take the case of Shine Morida, the venerable Lincoln Park sushi spot. It's been serving up fresh unagi and spicy tuna for so long, we nearly forgot about it. But give it a new look, a new menu, a new space and a few new waitresses—and our interest is thoroughly piqued.
Welcome to the new Shine, opening this Friday on Webster Ave.
The new Shine is a tad smaller than the old Shine, but it makes up for it with the kind of ambience that changes a good sushi source into a destination. From your first step through the door, you'll sense a fresher, airier vibe, with orange banquettes in the corners, edgy Asian street art on the walls and floor-to-ceiling windows to let you scope out the neighborhood (and vice versa).
It's the kind of place you'll want to bring a date, friends in the neighborhood or even your mom on Mother's Day, to savor the miso-glazed salmon, Hong Kong steak and maybe a couple lychee martinis.
There's also a brunch launching this Sunday, and in another month's time, there'll be an outdoor patio on Webster.
We'd say bring a date...or a book?
