The Weekender

The Weekend: On Whiskey and Waffles, Wine and Your Jeans

Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief the weekend is.

JEAN ACRES

Tell Your Jeans to Read This

If something unspeakable happened to your jeans, you could: A) Weep. B) Drop them off at Self Edge’s new in-house denim-repair studio. It’s one of only a handful of places in the country that do things the old-school way (read: all vintage equipment, like a ’50s Singer darning machine). So... B.

Friday
What You’re Eating During the Tourney
DELIVERANCE

What You’re Eating During the Tourney

Call it good timing. Call it the most essential March Madness intel ever. Call it... an online delivery service bringing dinner to your door from the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, Pica Pica, Ike’s and Turtle Tower. And a bunch of other places. They can handle huge orders, too. Just saying.

Whiskey + Waffles = This
RYE FIVE

Whiskey + Waffles = This

Chrissy’s Waffles: great waffles. Rye: great whiskey bar. Getting them together and rolling out a different waffle-and-whiskey special each week: great idea. Also, that’s happening. This week, it’s a waffle-pressed grilled cheese paired with a whiskey, dark rum and sarsaparilla cocktail. Okay, have a nice week.

Saturday
Go to St. Vincent. Go Home with Wine.
HOME BODY

Go to St. Vincent. Go Home with Wine.

St. Vincent is a restaurant. You know this. What you don’t know: it’s also a retail wine shop. At least it is on Saturday afternoons for their new shop hours. That’s when they’ll be pouring tastings and giving you the option of taking a few bottles home. Tip: exercise that option.

Saturdays, noon-3pm, St. Vincent, 1270 Valencia St (at 24th), 415-285-1200

Sunday
Charles Chocolates Is Back. Hard.
SWEET SPOT

Charles Chocolates Is Back. Hard.

Once upon a time, a place called Charles Chocolates opened and made glorious chocolate. Then it closed. Then (and here’s the good part) it reopened. Only now, there’s a giant exhibition kitchen where you can watch them make your brownies and peanut butterflies. And soon: a patio/café. Charles is the best.
