Shack Attack

Legendary NYC Burgers, Now in Town

Status quo day so far.

You woke up a bit late. Slipped in the rear entrance at work. Chatted up the gorgeous UPS delivery woman.

And as always, still no Shake Shack within two hours’ drive from here.

That last part changes tomorrow.

Signal the royal trumpeters for Shake Shack, the first local outpost of the NYC-born legend that produces fantastic burgers, cheese-slathered hot dogs and frozen custard amazingness, opening in Chestnut Hill tomorrow.

If the above sentence carries no meaning for you, ask anyone who has ever endured the insane lines for one of Danny Meyer’s lauded meat-treats to explain why this is worth-the-trip-from-downtown big news. Especially when considering this place will have all the classics from the famed burger joint, only with a touch of Massachusetts.

By that, we mean you and your fellow nitrate-seeking ninjas will make your way down Route 9, intent on devouring fresh-ground 100% Angus burgers amongst walls covered in wood reclaimed from a Holyoke paper mill. Our favorite: the SmokeShack (applewood-smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper, ShackSauce), chased down with a pint of their house ale.

And for dessert: one of their famous “concretes”—essentially, dense frozen custards blended at high speeds while things like peanut butter sauce, sprinkles and a cheesecake blondie are mixed in.

You never doubted cheesecake’s ability to blend in.
