Fast-forward to the Giants’ home opener.
You’re there. It’s great. Then it ends.
Then you have the sudden urge to walk a block down the road and get all “Giants win” over lethal gin cocktails and heated shuffleboard contests.
Well, good news: you can do that when the time comes.
And, well, better news: you can also do that tonight.
Because now there’s such a thing as Alchemist, a second-floor den of late-night cocktailery and shuffleboard within wind-sprinting distance of AT&T Park, now soft-open in SoMa.
So yes, you’ll be here on game days. And you’ll be here like you really, really mean it. But in the meantime, go ahead and start practicing tonight. It’s all classy and cocktail-bar-y in there. Might just make a solid post-dinner date option.
What you won’t find: TVs. Plan accordingly. What you will find: black-and-white movies projected on the exposed brick wall, tufted-leather couches as far as the eye can see and fantastically named cocktails like the Beez Nuts (it’s gin, chamomile and honey) and the Room with a Vieux (it’s got rye whiskey and tequila in it). Plan accordingly again.
Oh, and keep an eye on the chalkboard. That’s where they’ll be experimenting with Eastern-medicine-inspired cocktails infused with Chinese herbs and ginseng and whatnot.
Anyway, go Giants.
