The sunny rooftop bars and breezy, imbibing-friendly patios of summer: pretty much over.
A new go-to is needed. Dark wood. Hearty fare. Warmth.
So give your eyeballs an invigorating bath in: BoMa, your new handcrafted walnut- and cedar-trimmed gastro bar, tentatively opening a week from today in the South End.
Picture the legendary old Pho Republique/Bombay Club space on Washington Street. Now, remove that image entirely. In its place: a gorgeous refuge of gray leather, scratch-aged beams (courtesy of a baseball bat with nails in it) and a handmade giant indoor trestle, dimly lit by braided driftwood lighting fixtures.
This is where you’ll go for late-night small plates (think: pickles, seared gnocchi, french fries cooked in duck fat). Or a second date adorned with local lobster mac and cheese, and a bottle of prosecco (Italian bubbly = setting the groundwork for date three over breakfast).
Then again, you and some coworkers could just land at the 15-seat bar after work. In that case, we recommend the small-batch rye. Or even the occasional Apple Daiquiri with Banks 5 rum, German apple liquor and muddled sugar, served like a martini.
Okay, probably stick to the small-batch rye.
