Heywood’s Grilled-Cheese Happy Hour
HEY GIRL

Heywood’s Grilled-Cheese Happy Hour

After a long day, sometimes you just need to cut out a bit early, sidle up to a counter for happy hour and flag down an extra-strong grilled cheese. Related: all sandwiches are half-off at Heywood starting now. Well, technically starting at 4pm.

Mon-Fri, 4-6pm, Heywood, 3337 1/2 W Sunset Blvd, Silver Lake, 323-667-1522

Have a Beer, Get a Sweater
ORLEY ORLEY OXEN FREE

Have a Beer, Get a Sweater

Yesterday was weird. You almost needed a sweater. Stop by Union tonight and you’ll see some boldly colorful ones—it’s a new line called Orley, from a trio who’ve put in time at Thom Browne and Rag & Bone. There’s beer and Kogi at this party, so they seem legit.

Friday
Dylan’s Candy Bar: Now in LA
POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME

Dylan’s Candy Bar: Now in LA

For your average, everyday sugar rush, you can get some chocolate at the store. But sometimes you need the kind of store with 7,000 kinds of candy. A store like Dylan’s Candy Bar, whose very columns are made out of peppermint. Doesn’t appear to be load-bearing peppermint.

Now open (closed Sep 8 for private event), Dylan’s Candy Bar at the Farmers Market, 6333 W 3rd St, 323-930-1600

Saturday
Towne Has Brunch. It Gets Weird.
TOWNE HALL

Towne Has Brunch. It Gets Weird.

You might think you’ve seen all there is to see vis-à-vis brunch. You’d be wrong. Towne has unleashed a confounding spread of strawberry-tomato donuts, chocolate-mint “Twinkies” and The King French Toast, a cube of bread that involves layers of peanut butter, caramelized banana and bacon. RIP, eggs and toast.

Sat-Sun starting Sep 8, 8am-3:30pm, Towne, 705 W 9th St, Downtown, 213-623-2366

A Hilltop Screening of Drive
THE SCORPION KING

A Hilltop Screening of Drive

There are two ways to see some stunning Los Angeles scenery on Saturday. One: go to Barnsdall Art Park with a picnic dinner, wine from City Sip and amazing views of Downtown. Two: watch Drive, filmed mostly in Downtown. Or hey, watch Drive at Barnsdall. That’s next-level right there.
