The Weekender

Oysters, Pig Roasts and Coolio

Summers end. The weekend is forever.

Mud, Sweat, Beers... and Coolio
A HARD ROAD

Mud, Sweat, Beers... and Coolio

This is one hard race. You’ll run more than three miles. In the mud. Over obstacles. Through tunnels. While wearing a costume (well, they are encouraged). But when you’re done, there’s beer... and a performance from Coolio. Which, come to think of it, would be a pretty good costume.

Sep 1, walk-up registration starts at 8am, $75, Hawthorne Race Course, 3501 S Laramie Ave, Cicero, 708-780-3700

Sunday
The Last Summer Soiree at Roof
A HIGH NOTE

The Last Summer Soiree at Roof

It’s been one hell of a summer for partying at rooftop bars. So the best way to remember it is at this all-day throwdown atop the Wit, with DJs, fresh sushi and lots of Thai tiki punch on tap. Just like the Samoans do it.

Sep 2, noon-10pm, no cover, Roof on the Wit, 201 N State St, 27th Fl, reserve tables at 312-239-9502

A Pig Roast at Oak Street Beach
SUN ROASTING

A Pig Roast at Oak Street Beach

It wouldn’t be summer without a beachside pig roast. So... someone is finally throwing one for you. This beach hangout’s grand summer finale encompasses an all-you-can-eat buffet of roasted pig and pulled-pork sliders, plus margaritas and Mexican beers—which you also find integral to summer.

The All-Important Labor Day Brunch
KILLER CEREAL

The All-Important Labor Day Brunch

You’re going to make the most of your day off. Really. You just have to wake up before, oh, say, midafternoon. Bull & Bear has housemade pop-tarts, a cereal buffet and endless Bloody Marys until 4pm. But it’s up to you to find your pants.

Your Oyster Stimulus Plan
HALF SHELLS

Your Oyster Stimulus Plan

It’s Monday. You’re off work. The only thing that could make that combination any better: some oysters. That’s perfectly logical. So you go to Shaw’s. Also logical. You find that the oysters are all half-price ($13.50 for a dozen). Which is not entirely logical. But you totally understand.
