City Winery: What You Really Need to Know

None 8 Photos City Winery
It’s a restaurant. No, it’s a wine bar. No, it’s a full-blown winery. No, it’s a music venue. Whatever it is, City Winery—all 28,000 square feet of it—is opening tonight. Here’s how it helps you:

You have a hankering for pinot. Your own.
Yes, it’s a winery. It trucks in grapes from California, Oregon and beyond. You can work with their winemaker to create a barrel of the pinot blend of your dreams. You can also design the label and the bottle, and select the barrel cork.

You have a hankering to drink pinot. Not necessarily your own.
Making wine takes time. So as you wait for your barrel to do its thing, there are 14 reds, two rosés and two whites on tap, ready to be swirled, sniffed and robustly tossed back.

Of course, pinot goes so well with veal schnitzel...
The big open dining room—cozy for dates, big tables for dinner parties—is ready in case your wine just begs for some duck tacos, gnocchi, New York strip and burgers topped with blue cheese and zinfandel-braised onions.

And it’s not schnitzel without Lindsey Buckingham...
There’s also a separate performance space with an opening lineup: cantankerous comedian Lewis Black, a klezmer brunch and what’s being billed as an “intimate evening” with Lindsey Buckingham.

You’re going to want a glass of wine for that.
