Specifically, spicy beef pho happens.
Meet Dalat, a late-night Vietnamese joint that’s operating out of the old Redfork spot and exclusively serving comfort food (think roast porky things) between the evening hours of 10 and 2, now open.
So one night soon—call it tonight—you’ll be slipping out of Strangeways when you catch the aroma of barbecue pork banh mi wafting from next door. This probably goes without saying, but follow that smell.
Eventually, you’ll enter into a concrete compound with blue banquettes, a white bar, a massive dragon mural and... come on, it’s 1:45 in the morning, the place could look like a bus station for all you care. They’ve got salty, fatty, brisket-filled bowls of pho on the menu. You’re good.
Also on that menu: an Italian banh mi with peppered turkey and Genoa salami. Or, even stranger: the owner’s secret Spam Khanwich (yes, that Spam). It’s only available after midnight. We assume that’s a legal thing.
And in a month, when their liquor license comes through, you’ll be able to sip martini nightcaps garnished with the house’s special vodka-infused plums. But until then, it’s BYO booze.
